More movies are being released in the new generation Data Video Disc format High Definition Data Video Disc (HD DVD) as we speak. Is it time to get an HD DVD player? HD DVD uses a blue laser system. The laser has a shorter wavelength than the original red laser Data Video Disc format.

The shorter wavelength and the smaller pits means that more data can be stored on an HD disc. Thus it can store 3 times the amount of an ordinary Data Video Disc. It also supports all the surround sound formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS and the latest high definition surround sound formats available.

In terms of movies, many of the movie studios have come out in support of HD DVD. The players and recorders that will use HD DVD format discs are supported by some major consumer appliance manufacturers.

There is little doubt that High Definition Data Video Disc is a superior format to ordinary Data Video Disc. HD DVD has a rival for the next generation Data Video Disc format crown – Blu ray. For example, early Blu ray discs were not as robust as HD DVD discs and could be scratched easily. Hollywood studios Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox and MGM are producing their movies exclusively in Blu ray format.

Impressive Technology Included In New HD-DVD Player

It’s simply an HD-DVD player.

The wisdom of introducing a nine hundred dollar HD-DVD player is somewhat questionable right now considering the fact that HD-DVD has been engaged in a format war with its rival Blu-ray format for well over a year now.

The two formats of optical discs are capable of storing full length movies on single discs in HDTV format with all of their bonus features. Dual format discs for example, are an alternative that provides a Blu-ray movie on one side of a disc and the same movie in HD-DVD format on the other side of the disc so that either type of player can be used, but discs using this technology haven’t made it to market yet.

Another answer comes in the form of dual format player that can play discs of both formats. Indeed if the Onkyo player was capable of playing disks of both formats, it would be a bargain.
either format of High Def DVD, the Onkyo DV-HD805 goes for high technology in a number of different ways. (Incidentally, all of these features are supposed to be part of a new line of HD-DVD players from Toshiba)
