The amazing pictures produced on a plasma TV are the result of thousands of cells, which are actually individual glass containers injected with neon-xenon gases suspended in plasma. When an electric current strikes the gases, the red, green and blue phosphors light up in various shades, producing the picture.

As far as that display goes, plasma TVs have a decided advantage over LCD TVs, especially if viewing from side angles. As the viewer moves further off center from the screen, more variations in the LCD picture can occur.

Plasmas are able to better reproduce true black, which is especially helpful while watching TV in a normal or dimly lit room. Plasma TVs also are preferable for watching quickly moving scenes, such as sporting events. A flat panel screen of between 42 inches and 50 inches will only take up about three or four inches in depth, and can even be hung on walls.
