Product Description

From the Manufacturer
Manufacturer’s Description (March 17, 2009)
If you demand the best from your viewing experience, the 50-inch TC-P50G10 was created just for you. The new G10 Series boast cinema-quality movie reproduction, clear, smooth sports and gaming action–even Web entertainment. It is all made possible by Panasonic’s Neo PDP technology, which delivers sharp, detailed images, deep blacks and remarkable brightness, all with lower power consumption.

Stunning Picture Quality
Time spent with family and friends can be even more exciting when you gather around the 50-inch TC-P50G10. 1080p resolution combines with a 480 Hz processor to bring you exceptional clarity and smooth, fluid motion–even during high-speed action. VIERA HDTVs offer incredible black reproduction, with a rated dynamic contrast ratio of up to 1,000,000:1, so you’ll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. And now, all of your friends and family can get in on the action thanks to an extra-wide viewing angle that provides an excellent view from almost anywhere in the room.

600Hz Sub-field Drive
600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.

Over 2,000,000:1 High Contrast (Native 40,000:1)
New VIERA models incorporate an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system combines with NeoPDP technology to achieve next-generation black reproduction. When you’re watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it’s difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark.

this TV rocks!

By wokingfool*****

Ordered the TV and got it in 3 working days. it was delivered by Pilot in great condition. it was delivered 2 days early. I would not want to go with any other online place for big ticket items.
Picture: Great. Primary colors(black, red, blue, etc..) looked awesome. Secondary colors (green/yellow) looks a bit “radioactive”. CNET described this minor problem in their review. but if you are not looking for this, then you probably would not see it. For the money, i don’ have any grips.
Sound: ok, best to hook it up to home theater
Design: excellent. the silver on the bottom looks great.
Hooking up to receive signals: I did a bunch of research and decided to just get a HDTV indoor antenna. Chose a Radio Shack DA-5200, and picked up about 20 local digital channels(some are HD). The picture is clear and it only costs $60. Instead of paying $60/month for cable/dish, i can buy 3 blue ray discs/month. what a deal!
HD Picture: awesome. once you see this, you would not want to look at a regular tv. the HD channels look absolutely REAL.

Overall Best Value

By 4U2C*****

I looked at Sony and Samsung but decided to buy this Panasonic because of value for my money. At $[...], it included a mail-in rebate to cover the cost of the Panasonic Blu Ray player. Sure, if money was no object just get the biggest and the best. There is no need for me to go into all the technical details or the pros and cons of this plasma as many reviewers have already done so. The picture quality is amazing; I set it on the THX mode. I used the factory default setting as it was optimized for the average eyesight and I am average. If your eye sight is a little more challenged, there are adequate adjustments to tone it up. Excellent TV for the $$$, very happy with this purchase and I highly recommend it.

Anyways, the plasma panel, PN50A550 is as good as I thought it was. There are lots of great things about this plasma and I will address some questions that people have had with plasmas and this particular model…and from its predecessor, the 5084.

Color and black levels:
The factory settings are almost OK if you don’t know how to calibrate plasmas of this caliber. Each source has its own independent set of Dynamic/Standard/Movie settings… which is great because each source has a different video quality feed. So for bright rooms I used Dynamic (remembering to turn off any dynamic contrast settings that will lessen the performance of this plasma). For dark/dim lighting, I calibrated it using the Movie setting. After spending a good time on 3 sources (DVD, CABLE HD and the Wii) the video feed is mesmerizing! Remember not to use any dynamic contrasting when you calibrate, no need for it….ask any pro!

Buzzing:
There was an issue with some 5084’s having a loud buzzing sound.

Heat  :

I have touched the sides and the top. Less heat = less energy.

Burn In/ Image Retention / Ghost images:
I have TRIED to produce burn in images with the A550(remember that I have calibrated settings and not factory)…and it’s really hard. The anti-burn in settings that come with this plasma works wonders and has options to if you did have burn in, you can get rid of it.

Speakers:

The only reason there are speakers on plasmas/ LCDs this size is because the consumer does not invest in a home theatre system right away. I always thought….BIG pictures need BIG sound.

All in all, this is a wonderful plasma. People ask me all the time why I chose plasma over LCD? ? Look at one side by side and tell me which one you want to invest your money into….plasma all the way. .
