So pleased with Trendnet 56k USB modem****

I’m a computer novice, but I have to endorse this product, even though I ended up paying twice as much to have it installed at a computer repair shop! To make a long story short, my rural dial-up modem got fried by a lightning hit ON THE PHONE LINE from a storm that was way in the distance but got me anyway. The dial-up quit and retries showed phone modem error. At the repair shop, I was first told the modem board could be replaced on the underside of the laptop (too much $ for labor time, though); or that a card could be put in the card slot on the side; the final repair actually consisted of the very product shown here for the USB port. This bypassed the fried modem, and is working just like the old connection did. My laptop computer has Windows Vista. So save yourself about $35 labor charge and try one of these. Comes with software disc. I’m pleased with it. I blame my own lack of enough knowledge about how this would have worked, I could have done this myself. I had researched it on an old computer I still have that was still good to get on the net, and did originally find this product. I was just unsure to try it. I wish I had, for the extra $35 it cost me ($70 repair total at the shop), we could have gone out to dinner. I’ve ordered just a few things at Amazon, but have had absolutely no problems with anything.

I’m amazed that so much power can fit within such a miniscule component! I’m considering freeing one of my desktop’s expansion card slots and buying another TRENDnet 56K USB modem. I’d give it 6 Stars (or higher!)if I could.
